Surry Hills Locksmith Service

Security, built into every detail — locks, keys and doors for the terraces, apartment blocks and shopfronts of Surry Hills, from a workshop on Bourke Street. Open 7:00 AM to midnight, every day.

The Entry Point

Every secure building starts at one door.

A front door is a small machine with four working parts. Select a point on the door to see what each one does — and what usually goes wrong with it.

Detail 01 / 04

The cylinder

Where every conversation between key and lock happens. A quality cylinder resists picking, drilling and bumping — a worn one announces itself as a key that needs a wiggle.

Security in layers

No single lock makes a building secure.

Good security is four ordinary layers, each doing its modest job. When something fails, it is usually because one layer was asked to do the work of three.

01

The door & the frame

Half of break-in resistance is carpentry: a solid leaf, a tight fit, and strike plates screwed into real frame timber — not the skim coat behind it.

02

The lock itself

Cylinders, deadbolts and mortice locks matched to the door they protect. Quality hardware, fitted square, is quiet for decades.

03

Keys & who holds them

Rekeying, restricted profiles and keying-alike. Control over who can have a copy is as much a part of security as the metal.

04

The habit of maintenance

A stiff key today is a lockout next month. Small, early adjustments keep the whole assembly honest — and cheap to own.

Problem · Response

Doors rarely fail politely.

They fail at 7:58 AM before an opening shift, or at midnight in the rain. The pattern of failure is predictable — which means the response can be calm.

What’s going wrong

  • Keys that grind, or need a wiggle before they turn
  • Latches that drag and doors that need a lift to close
  • Nightlatches that lock behind you with no key inside
  • Key collections that have outgrown the ring’s logic
  • Locks patched over the years until nothing matches

How we respond

  • Diagnose the cause — the worn part, not just the symptom
  • Non-destructive entry before any drilling, wherever the door allows
  • Hardware chosen for your actual door, then fitted square
  • Old parts removed, keys tested with you, mess gone before we leave

How a job runs

Four steps, no theatre.

The same sequence whether it’s a lockout at 8 AM or a planned rekey of an entire building — because good work is mostly good sequence.

01

Call & describe

Tell us what’s happening — the suburb, the door, the symptom. We ask the questions that narrow it down before anyone travels.

02

Assess before touching

On site, we look at the whole door: lock, fit, frame, wear. You get a plain-language diagnosis and a price before any work starts.

03

The work, done properly

Repair, rekey, replace or open — with hardware matched to the door, fitted square, and every old part cleaned up and taken away.

04

Test & hand over

We test the keys, the latch and the close together, make sure you’re happy, and tell you how to keep it working that way.

The workshop

A workshop on Bourke Street, not a call centre.

Surry Hills is a small grid of terrace rows, interwar blocks, warehouse conversions and new apartment buildings — sometimes all on the same corner. Each style takes different hardware and a different touch, and after years of working these streets we know what tends to be behind which front door.

Being local also means being honest about time. When you call, you’re talking to the people who will actually do the work, and the person who arrives is the one you spoke to. That’s the whole advantage of a neighbourhood workshop, and we intend to keep it that way.

Why people call

Straight answers, first.

  • Genuinely local — the workshop is on Bourke Street, not a call centre in another city.
  • Honest hours — 7:00 AM to midnight, every day. We say so plainly, and we don’t pretend otherwise.
  • Non-destructive first — picking and bypass before drilling, wherever the door allows it.
  • Clear pricing — you know the cost before work starts, not after.

On reviews

We’d rather show you nothing than something we can’t back.

This site is new, so we haven’t published customer reviews yet — real ones will appear here as they come in, unedited. In the meantime, ask around the neighbourhood; the workshop has been part of it for a while.
